Challenge
"Time is money". This is where this saying becomes visible. The time it takes for products to appear on the market is getting shorter and shorter. This must also reduce the development time and the resulting development costs.
Vehicles are becoming more and more digital, and with it the development topics are also shifting. Test vehicles are no longer state-of-the-art for many topics. For this reason, topics must be placed in the test field in order to meet the requirements.
Method
First, the existing test bench types were recorded and their potential analyzed. In a second step, this potential was discussed and presented with the specialist agencies. In this exchange, 2 test programs were defined for their implementation:
- Fuel consumption measurements were driven more on the vehicle chassis dynamometer
- part of the idle application was shifted to the engine test bench
Result
In very close cooperation between all the departments involved, the following potential could be leveraged:
- Reduced development costs
- Fewer test drivers
- fewer development vehicles
- More reproducible measurements
